Mr J S Chawla is a Cataract Surgeon with special interests in complex and advanced cataract surgery and Oculoplastics. He is a Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon with Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust based at Queens Hospital, Romford, Essex (since 2 February 2001). Prior to this he worked as a substantive Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan from Sept 1995 to January 2001. Mr Chawla graduated from University of Delhi, India in 1978. He did his MD in Ophthalmology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, India in 1981.

Mr Chawla holds private clinics at Spire Hartswood, Brentwood; Nuffield Health, Brentwoodand Spire Roding, Ilford. Mr Chawla works with Spire Cosmetic Surgery and perform Cosmetic Surgery at Spire Roding Hospital. He has several research publications, presentations at national and international conferences to his credit. He has been the Lead for Clinical Governance in Ophthalmology for over 10 years in Barking Havering Redbridge Hospitals NHS Trust and is closely involved with audit and research.

Mr Chawla gained his Fellowship in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1994. He was elected as a Fellow of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists and has been awarded the Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is on the panel of Examiners ofthe Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and The Royal College of Ophthalmologists,London.

Mr Chawla is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at Queen Mary, University of London,Barts and London Medical School. He is a director of Essex Vision and Essex Medical Consortium and a partner of Essex Medicare LLP
